At least 11 people have been killed and over 45 others injured after a fire broke out at Karachi's Regent Plaza Hotel in Pakistan on Monday morning. Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames and rescue the guests.

The fire broke out in the kitchen that is located on the ground floor of the four-star hotel at the city's Shahrah-i-Faisal area. It swept through the building killing 11 people and trapping several others in their rooms, DawnNews reported.

The firefighters took three hours to douse the flames, a press release issued by Saddar Police Station stated.

Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar told reporters that the cause of the fire was still not known and added that the hotel had "no fire exits or fire alarms."

Dr Seemin Jamali, head of the emergency services at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, told DawnNews that at least 65 people affected by the fire were brought to the emergency department on Monday. Some had fractured their bones as a result of jumping from the hotel windows to escape the fire, while others were hurt by the shattered pieces of glass. Many were treated for inhaling the smoke.

Jamali added that 10 bodies -- six men and four women -- had been brought to the hospital. The six men included three doctors and the front desk manager of the hotel. Three foreigners, who were affected by the fire, are now stable, Jamali told DawnNews.

According to local mdia reports, rescue operation has still not ended as people are still trapped inside the hotel.
