Kolkata, Nov 27 (ANI): Finance Minister P Chidambaram called for stern action against service tax evaders as the country’s tax scheme had met with poor response. Addressing an awareness camp on Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme (VCES) in Kolkata on Tuesday, Chidambaram warned the defaulters to pay their taxes or else be ready to face legal action. The finance minister highlighted that the service tax amnesty scheme launched by his ministry has sought poor response so far. He revealed that thirteen chronic tax evaders have been arrested so far and the defaulters should not ignore the warning.
