MWC 2016: Oppo announces breakthrough technology capable of charging phones under 15 minutes

For the past few days, Oppo on Weibo has been teasing the impending launch of flagship smartphone series R9. Now, the company has officially announced that the new phone will make its debut later this month.

Oppo on Weibo has confirmed that R9 series will be unveiled March 17 at Performing Arts Center, Beijing.

Rumour has it that the company will be showcasing two R9 series phones – a 5.5-inch model and another R9 Plus with 6.0-inch screen.

The former variant is said to feature AMOLED based full HD (1920x1080p) display, Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, MediaTek Helio X10 Octa-core SoC (System-on-Chip), 4GB RAM, 64GB inbuilt storage, 13MP camera on the back and 4MP snapper on the front.

On the other hand, the R9 Plus is expected to sport AMOLED screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, 4GB RAM, 16MP primary camera, 4MP front shooter, 4120mAh battery with proprietary VOOC fast charging technology and will come in 64GB and 128GB storage options.

In a related development, Chinese technology blog Zing Gadget has gotten hold of the R9 series promotional flyer revealing the devices' price details.

In the flyer, the regular Oppo R9 model is shown to cost ¥2498(around $384/€348/Rs 25,828), whereas the bigger sibling R9 Plus will come in two sub-variants -- 64GB and 128GB— for ¥2998(around $461/€418/Rs 30,942), and ¥3298 (around $507/€460/Rs 34, 059), respectively.
