In yet another case of sexual assault in a school, a Class six student in Odisha was molested by her headmaster for over a month.

When the incident at the Andala Nodal school in Mayurbhanj district came to light on Tuesday, the villagers brutally thrashed him after tying him to a pole. He was then handed over to the police.

Here's what had happened

The alleged assault surfaced after the molestation victim refused to go to school on consecutive days. When her parents questioned her, she reported that her headmaster, who has been identified as Tapas Giri, has been sexually harassing her since many days.

Following the revelation, the villagers thrashed him.

"The headmaster of the school had been sexually assaulting a Class 6 student for the last one month. She later told her family about it. A case has been registered regarding this and he has been arrested," said VK Patel, DSP (DIB), Mayurbhanj.

It was also reported that Giri is a repeat offender. Though the police has registered a case against him, Giri has denied assaulting the minor.

This is not the first time, a case of sexual assault in an educational institutions has made the headlines.

Earlier on November 30, a 4-year-old girl studying in the prestigious GD Birla School in North Kolkata was sexually assaulted by two of her teachers, who were arrested by the police, and charged under Sections 4 and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act.
