Chennai, Sept 28 (ANI): A day after a special court in Bangalore convicted and sentenced J Jayalalithaa to four years imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case, O Panneerselvam was chosen to be Tamil Nadu's new chief minister. The decision was taken at a meeting of AIADMK MLAs at the party headquarters in Chennai on Sunday. Earlier, J Jayalalithaa had conveyed to senior party colleagues that her choice as the state's next CM is her close aide O Panneerselvam. Panneerselvam was also earlier elevated to the position of chief minister in 2001 when Jayalalithaa had to step down following her conviction in the Tansi land deal case; she was subsequently acquitted.
