Three teams have already made it to the knockouts and it is either NorthEast United FC or Kerala Blasters, who become the fourth and the final team for the ISL 2016 semi finals.
If the Guwahati-based side don't manage to pick up at least a point against the in-form Delhi Dynamos on Wednesday, Kerala Blasters make it to the last four of the Indian Super League for the second time in three seasons.
While NorthEast remain fifth in the ISL 2016 points table at the moment with 15 points and two league games to go, Kerala Blasters have 19 points with one game remaining. Delhi Dynamos, meanwhile, have already made it to the semis after clinching 20 points from 12 games.
"It's going to be like a final. So far we have kept ourselves alive and we need to continue keeping ourselves alive," mentioned NorthEast United head coach Nelo Vingada ahead of the match. "I hope when we play in Kochi [against Kerala Blasters FC in the Highlanders' last league-stage game], we are still in it. Let's see what happens but we can't say anything [as of now]."
The Delhi side have scored a whopping 26 times from 12 games so far -- the highest among all teams this season. To prevent the lethal goalscoring form, NorthEast United do need to step up their defence. However, ahead of the match, Vingada has a major headache with goalkeeper Subrata Paul and defender Gustavo Lazzaretti.
