Rumors on the possible re-launch of the X-Trail SUV of Nissan Motor India (NMIPL) were rife during the ongoing festive season. With the season reaching its end and no sign from Nissan India, the SUV lovers will have to wait till 2016 for the X-Trail SUV.

A report from Overdrive claims Nissan confirmed the launch of the X-Trail SUV during 2016 Auto Expo which is scheduled in February 2016. If this is anything to go by, the third generation of the Nissan's SUV will make it to India, which was introduced to the global market at the 2013 Frankfurt motor Show. The first generation X-Trail was the first vehicle offered by the Japanese company in the India, but was eventually discontinued in 2014.

The new X-Trail is globally in its third generation and takes a radical change in design. The boxy design of the previous generation makes way for a rounded design and incorporates styling cues from the Juke, Murano, and the Patrol from the current line-up.

The new X-Trail is based on the Common Module Family (CMF) platform architecture jointly-developed by Nissan and Renault. Under the hood, the SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.6-litre diesel engine with a power output of 130bhp and maximum torque of 320Nm, mated to a six-speed CVT gearbox. The petrol variant is not expected to make it to India. The Nissan X-Trail will also come with 4WD system underlining its off-road prowess.

One of the reasons for discontinuing the previous X-Trail was the decline in sales owing to its high price. Nissan is likely to take the Completely Knocked Down(CKD) line this time, which will help them to price the SUV in the range of Rs 30-40 lakh.
