Japanese carmaker Nissan is inching closer to unveil its new full size SUV at the Beijing Motor Show 2018 (Auto China) in April. Ahead of the premiere, pictures of the new SUV have been leaked online. Nissan SUV was rumored with names from the XTerra to the Paladin, the images show Nissan has named the SUV Terra.

Nissan Terra has proper boxy design in line with its rivals like Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour (Everest in other markets) and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. The chrome packed grille and headlights posses latest design language of Nissan. The rear of the Terra has a van like design with horizontal tail-lamps and chrome trims on the tailgate. The spotted model seems to be a lower-spec model as the front fog lights are missing.

Though the images of the interior are not available at the moment, Terra will feature seven seats split over three rows. It will be offered in a 2.5-litre petrol mill for the Chinese market, with an option of either a rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. A 2.3-litre four-cylinder diesel engine in both 158hp and 187hp states of tune is expected to join the range later.

The Terra will be based on the rugged underpinnings of the global NP300 Navara pickup truck. The body-on-frame SUV will also come with a host of comfort, safety and ergonomic features.

Will it be launched in India?

It is too early to comment on that. However, if Nissan decides to bring the Terra in India, it will be the flagship product of the Nissan here. Nissan recently hinted at focusing on premium models while Datsun will stick around budget friendly cars. Hence, arrival of Terra in India cannot be written off. In that case, the Terra will give tough competition to segment leader Toyota Fortuner here.
