Now that filming of "The Vampire Diaries" season six has commenced, many were expecting Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder to have a strained relationship owing to his closeness to actress Nikki Reed, who is also a friend of Dobrev's.
However, sources close to Dobrev have revealed that the 25-year-old is in fact cool with her former boyfriend moving on in life, and dating one of her close friends. Dobrev is said to be focusing on herself, and doesn't want Somerhalder's relationship with Reed coming in the way of her professional life.
"If Ian and Nikki are happy, then Nina is fine with it," a source told HollywoodLife. "Nina just has to live her life and the fact that Ian is still in it is not under her control, it's just business. She refuses to allow emotions take over a paycheck."
The source added that Dobrev is confident that she would date someone someday, and that she does not want to be judged at the time.
"Regardless of the feelings that she had about Ian, she knows that she will be dating someone someday and she will want to be treated the way she treats others," the source added. "She is going to be nothing but cordial and respectful when it comes to Ian and Nikki because in her mind, it's the right thing to do."
In the meantime, the relationship of Somerhalder and Reed appears to be going strong, and rumors are afloat that the two are even planning to get matching tattoos. The tattoos won't be of each other's names, as Reed had done that in the past, and it had not gone well for her.
"Nikki and Ian are talking about getting tattoos together," another source told HollywoodLife. "They want to get a matching quote instead of each other's names because Nikki has already done the name thing with two of her exes and neither one of them worked out. She wants to do something different with Ian."
Somerhalder and Reed have been friends for a long time, and they reportedly took their relationship to the next level after last month. The two were photographed indulging in public display of affection at a Los Angeles farmer's market in July.
While Dobrev seems to be okay with Somerhalder and Reed's relationship, the "Twilight" actress' former husband Paul McDonald is believed to be heartbroken, according to reports.
