Season 8 of "The Vampire Diaries," which could be the last for the CW vampire drama, will feature a reunion between former lovers Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, who play Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert respectively. But someone who is said to be unhappy with this is Somerhalder's wife, Nikki Reed.
Reports note that Reed isn't too comfortable with Somerhalder working with his ex girlfriends, and the "Twilight" actress was said to be happy when Dobrev announced her departure from "The Vampire Diaries" after Season 6. But Dobrev and Somerhalder are said to have decided to put their personal issues aside to give the show a deserving send-off, as "The Vampire Diaries" was a big part of their careers.
"The show did so much for [Ian and Nina's] careers and put them on the map," a source told HollywoodLife. "For Julie Plec and the other writers and creators, they feel like they owe it to them to suck it up and send the show off any way they want to send it off. At the end of the day, they are professional, and that would win out over any other drama."
There hasn't been any official word on when Dobrev will return or for how many episodes she'll be available. But according to yet another HollywoodLife source, Dobrev will be available for at least two episodes.
"At this very moment, it is expected that Nina will be a part of the show on a very limited basis," the source revealed. "There is still tons of time to figure it all out and deal with proper scheduling, but it is going to be a less is more type of situation to finish her story."
Somerhalder and actress Kat Graham, who plays Bonnie, have announced their decision to depart from the show after Season 8. Bonnie is expected to be killed off in the series finale, as only her death will bring Elena back to life.
