Looks like carriers are trying to deplete the current stock of Nexus 5, which has received a price cut with the release date of Nexus 6 aka Nexus X drawing near.

Sparking off speculations that Google Inc. might be preparing for the release of its upcoming flagship smartphone dubbed as Nexus 6 aka Nexus X, eBay started selling Nexus 5 at a discounted price last week. The carrier put up the 16GB variant of the device at $314.99 (Unlocked) as against the original price of $350.

Interestingly, the carrier has stopped the offer and put up a "SOLD" tag on its website. It claimed that 2,000 units of the handset have been sold with discounted price. Moreover, the price of the device remains the same on Google Play Store, hinting that the carrier slashed the price of the smartphone either to deplete the current stock owing to the arrival of Nexus 6 aka Nexus X or to create hype around the upcoming device.

It may be mentioned that Nexus 5 is still going strong with Google coming up with attractive deals, including a marginal price cut a couple of months ago. The device sports a 4.95-inch display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with 1080 x 1920 pixels (445 ppi pixel density), powered by Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset and runs on Android OS, v4.4 (KitKat), upgradable to v4.4.4 (KitKat). It comes packed with 16/32 GB internal memory and 2 GB RAM, non-removable Li-Po 2300 mAh battery, and 8MP camera with autofocus, optical image stabilization, and LED flash.

Meanwhile, Google is all set to launch its next-generation smartphone dubbed as Nexus 6 aka Nexus X this winter though it is yet to reveal the release date. Sundar Pichai, Vice President of the company had earlier said at the Mobile World Congress 2014 (MWC 2014) that the device would be announced in October but he didn't reveal the exact date. Inferse went on to say that Motorola Shamu aka Nexus 6 would be unveiled on 31 October though it is not confirmed.

According to Antutu benchmark, the Nexus 6/Nexus X aka Shamu will sport a 5.2-inch screen with 1440x2560p resolution, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with CPU speed close to 2.5GHz, come packed with 3GB RAM and 13MP rear camera and 2.1MP front snapper, contradicting earlier reports that it might have a 13MP main camera and a 5MP front snapper.

However, G4Games reported that Nexus 6 aka Nexus X might come with a Quad-core MT6732 64-bit chip that clocked at 1.5GHz, or the octa-core MT6752 SoC running at a frequency of 2.0GHz. The device is expected to run on Android L and have a 3100 mAh Li-Polymer battery.

There were also reports that Nexus 6 might have several interesting features, including a curved LCD display and a lightweight, polycarbonate body. It may also boast of Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and micro-USB connectivity slot.
