A newborn baby boy died after his mother hurled him from the third storey of a building in Surat on Thursday.

Initially, the one-day-old baby survived the throw but succumbed to death on Friday due to brain hemorrhage and internal injuries, First Post reported.

The mother claimed that she took the extreme step out of confusion. Police reported that the mother was found unconscious in the third floor of the building following the incident.

On questioning, the woman revealed that she threw child as she was unaware of her pregnancy. She had given birth in a washroom and was in a disturbed state of mind.

The police filed case of murder against the mother. They are also investigating if the baby's father was involved in the crime.

It is speculated that the couple who was married six months ago, might have had a fight over the pregnancy, and as a result the woman threw the baby out.

In a similar incident on Friday, a one-day-old baby girl was found abandoned in a drain, near Chilakaluripeta of Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. The baby has been admitted in the intensive care unit of the district hospital.

According to NDTV, police have filed a complaint against the baby's parents or guardian under IPC section 317 according to which abandoning a minor below 12 years is punishable to seven years of imprisonment or fine or both.
