A case of rape has been registered against an 18-year-old Indian student who is pursuing his studies from The State University of New York at Oswego in New York.

The student has been identified as Abhay Pant, who is originally a resident of Delhi. He has been arrested in the US on accusations of entering the room of a female student of the university and sexually assaulting her during early hours of the morning.

According to Hindustan Times, the campus newspaper of the university, The Oswegonian, reports that the 18-year-old was arrested on charges of first-degree rape by the University Police last week.

Pant who was prosecuted in Oswego Town Court was sent into the custody of Oswego County Correctional Facilities on the cash bail of $50,000. Pant has been asked to appear before the court again after a few days.

As per the code of conduct of the university, which is mentioned in the 2014-2015 Oswego State Student Handbook, students accused of criminal violations, including sexual assaults will have to pay strict penalties besides disciplinary actions taken by the administration.

Oswego State President Deborah Stanley informed that any individual violating the rules mentioned in the code of conduct would be barred from being a member of the college community.
