A lot has been written about the new Volkswagen Beetle, which is gearing up to make its India debut. Although the company is yet to announce the launch date of the new "Bug car" in India, rumours indicated the model will mark its entry soon. Now, lending credence to the discussion, a new set of images of the Beetle has hit the web.

The folks at Power Drift have shared images of the Volkswagen Beetle caught on camera undergoing test runs in the country. In the images, the new Beetle is seen in white body shade.

Bookings for Beetle are already underway in the country with a down payment of Rs 1 lakh.

From what we know so far, Volkswagen Beetle will be powered by an in-line four-cylinder 1395cc TSI petrol engine developing 148bhp and 250Nm of torque, mated to seven-speed DSG transmissions. The car comes with a 0-100kmph time of 8.7 seconds and top speed of 203kmph.

To be sold only in one variant, Beetle will be offered in four colours in India: Habanero Orange, Oryx White, Tornado Red and Blue Silk. As for features, the Beetle will feature bi-xenon headlamps, front fog lamps, electrically foldable ORVMs, a rear spoiler, dual exhaust and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The Beetle, which is slightly angular in its latest avatar, will get a dual-zone air-conditioning system, multi-function display, an audio system with eight speakers, panaromic sunroof, auto-dimming rearview mirrors and cruise control inside the cabin.

Expect the new Beetle to get a price tag around the Rs 30-lakh mark.
