Kerala, which is also called 'God's Own Country' is a favourite tourist destination for many due to its rich traditions, festivals, backwaters and the serene nature.

To mark the beginning of the tourism season in Kerala, the state is set to conduct the famous Nehru Trophy boat race (Vallamkali), which is named after first Indian prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

When one thinks of the state's famous boat race, the song "Kuttanadan Punjayile" -- composed by Vayalar and G Devarajan for film "Kaavalan Chundan" in 1967 -- comes to the mind of a Malayali who knows the song since his childhood.

Now, as part of the 63rd boat race event, keyboardists Stephen Devassy and Solid Band have given a western touch for the popular song using modern musical instruments.

The song was launched during a recent event as the theme song of Nehru Trophy boat race, which is scheduled to take place in Vembanad Lake in Alappuzha on 8 August.

The programme begins at 11 am on Saturday and will see the presence of India's Vice President Hamid Ansari and Chinese Ambassador to India Le Yucheng among others. The boat race is likely to be attended by more than 2 lakh people, including foreigners.
