Childhood becomes special when kids get a chance to be with their grandparents, who pamper them by making all their wishes come true. The memories spent with the loving pillars of comfort are cherished throughout the life.

In order to honour grandparents, the National Grandparents Day is celebrated in the United States since 1978 on the first Sunday after Labor Day. This year, the special day for the elders falls on Sept. 11, when the country commemorates the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attack that shook the entire world in 2001.

"In our grandmothers and grandfathers, we see a reflection of what is possible with hard work, grit, and determination. Their fight for inclusively and opportunity for all can be seen in board rooms and courthouses across our country, and their efforts helped build the world's largest, most durable economy and strongest middle class," U.S. President Barack Obama said in the presidential proclamation released on Sept. 9.

"This enduring legacy spans generations and will empower innovators and leaders for years to come," he added.
