National Dog Day 2016: Here are 3 documentaries on Netflix for animal lovers

Today is National Dog Day and it is a day specially set aside to celebrate the friendship between man and dogs. Studies have shown that dogs as pets help us lead happier and healthier life and this Friday, dog owners will get an opportunity to show their pets what he or she means to them.

National Dog Day was founded in 2004 when pet and family lifestyle expert and animal advocate Colleen Paige decided to set aside a specific day to encourage adoption and bring more attention to the plight of animals. The significance of Aug. 26 is that it was on this date that Paige's family adopted their first dog named Sheltie when she was just 10 years old.

To celebrate this day, we have compiled a list of documentaries on Netflix that will cater to not just dog lovers, but all animal lovers.

This documentary will see Dr. Carin Bondar introducing several unusual animal friendships such as an elephant leading a buffalo herd, a jackal caring for an elderly dog.

72 Cutest Animals: This documentary is an investigation into what makes an animal cute, and dogs are sure to feature in this documentary series.
