National Awards 2016 winners list is out, and Deepika Padukone isn't on it. While Kangana Ranaut is rejoicing her win (for "Tanu Weds Manu Returns"), "Piku" director Shoojit Sircar is upset that Deepika didn't make the cut.

Shoojit told SpotboyE that he would have loved it if Deepika had won the Best Actress award because it was one of her best performances. "And I don't say this because I directed her. Piku will be remembered forever as one of her most nuanced performances. As for the national honour, she will get her due there as well, with another performance though," he told SpotboyE.

"Bajirao Mastani" has bagged four major awards and Amitabh Bachchan has been honoured with Best Actor trophy for "Piku."

May be Deepika hasn't bagged the biggie, but she has walked away with top honours at other award shows such as Filmfare Awards, Screen Awards, and Stardust Awards among others.

Deepika did three films in 2015 — "Piku," "Tamasha," and "Bajirao Mastani" — all of which were content-driven, but also partially in the commercial space. She played completely different roles in all of them, flooring fans and critics alike with her honest performances.

She will next be seen in "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," in which she plays girlfriend to Vin Diesel. This is her big Hollywood debut and she has prepared real hard for it. The actress is yet to sign a Bollywood film, but had shown interest in Saina Nehwal biopic before she left for Toronto, Canada (where she is shooting for "XXX").

"I would love to play Saina onscreen. We have played together in fact and obviously she was way better .. She also said to me 'good' also. We had fun time... Of course anything for the love of sports specially if it is badminton," she told IANS last month.
