A court in Nashik, Maharashtra, has sent Army Colonel Vinod Sahani to three days' police custody for interrogation in connection with a case of sexual assault of a mentally-challenged woman at his residence last month.

Sahani was arrested on Saturday night, based on a complaint filed by the parents of the 21-year-old victim. The police produced him before a Nashik Road court that sent him to police custody till 5 May, said Atul Zende, ACP (Division I), PTI reported.

The police said that the incident took place on 30 April when the girl was alone at her flat in the building where the senior Army officer also resided.

Sahani forcibly took the victim to his house and allegedly raped her, Deolali Camp police station senior officer Rajesh Akhade said.

However, Sahani has told the police that these are false accusations. The senior Army officer is posted in Artillery Centre in Nashik's Deolali Camp.
