MWC 2016: Xiaomi unveils Mi 5 series with Snapdragon 820 CPU

Xiaomi Mi5 series will first hit stores in China early next month with gold, white and black colour options.

After months of speculations, Xiaomi finally pulled the wraps off flagship smartphone Mi 5 at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016, Barcelona.

The new Xiaomi Mi5 series comes in three variants with different storage and CPU configuration. The top-end model will be called Mi 5 Pro, which comes with 2.15Ghz Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB inbuilt memory.

The other two variants ship with 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820+3GB+32GB and 1.8GHz Snapdragon+3GB RAM and 64GB storage.

Other specifications remain the same in all the three models. They come with 5.15-inch full HD display with finger-print sensor at the bottom, which also doubles up as the home button, the latest Android Marshmallow OS based MIUI v7.0, 16MP Sony IMX298 camera, 4MP snapper on the front, 3000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

The company has confirmed that the high-end model Mi 5 Pro will be priced Â¥2699 (around $413/â‚¬376/Rs 28,307) whereas the 3GB+32GB and 3GB+64GB models will cost Â¥1999 (around $306/â‚¬279/Rs 20,965) and Â¥2299 ($351/â‚¬320/Rs 24,111), respectively.

All three variants will be made available in black, white and gold colour options and go on sale in China March 1 via Mi.com and Mi Home website.

There is no word on when Xiaomi Mi5 series models will be released in India and other regions. Watch this space for more updates.
