Shashank's "Mungaru Male 2" has got an earth-shattering opening, although the Kannada movie had opened to mixed reviews. In the first two days, the Ganesh-starrer has earned over Rs. 11 crore.

"'Mungaru Male 2' was released in over 240 screens from which it has earned Rs. 5 crore on the first day," a source told International Business Times, India. "The movie enjoyed over 90 percent occupancy in theatres on the opening day. The collections saw a jump of 10-15 percent on the second day and the film is thought to have earned over Rs. 5.5 crore to take its total tally to Rs. 10.5 crore."

"We are thrilled by the audience response to 'Mungaru Male 2.' It has done well not just in Karnataka but also outside the state, in places like Pune, Hyderabad, etc. We took a bold decision to release it simultaneously in foreign countries, and it was received grandly by the overseas audience," an elated director Shashank told IBTimes.

However, the area-wise break-up of the collection is yet to be revealed. Trade experts say that "Mungaru Male 2" has broken all the previous records of Ganesh and has turned out to be the biggest opener of his career till date.

"Mungaru Male" had a poor start but the collections picked up in the later days to put up a milestone in Sandalwood.

The Kannada film, which was released in over 300 screens, stars Ganesh and Neha Shetty in the lead roles. Ravichandran plays an important role in the flick.

"Mungaru Male 2" was supposed to be released on Friday, Sept. 9. But the bandh call given by the pro-Kannada outfits over the Cauvery water-sharing row delayed the release by a day.
