The Mumbai police on Friday exhumed skeletal remains and a suitcase in which 9X Media founder Indrani Mukherjea allegedly stuffed her daughter's body and dumped it after setting it on fire.

Police recovered a skull and some bones from a forest area in Pen Tehsil of Raigad district in Maharashtra where Sheena Bora's remains were believed to have been buried, The Times of India reported.

The Mumbai police have sent the samples to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for a DNA test to verify whether the remains are of Sheena, according to news reports.

Meanwhile, police are interrogating Indrani, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Manohar Rai – the three main accused in the case and have sought custody of the three until 31 August.

While Indrani, wife of former Star TV CEO Peter Mukherjea, was arrested on Tuesday on the basis of Rai's confession during interrogation into an illegal arms case, Khanna was taken into custody the other day.

The Mumbai police now want to confront Khanna with other accused and also take him to the crime scene for further interrogations.

Mikhail Bora, Sheena's brother, was also flown to Mumbai on Friday after he claimed that he is in possession of evidence that will prove Indrani murdered his sister. Mikhail was questioned in Guwahati, Assam, where he lives with his grandparents. He has promised to cooperate with the police and handover all the evidence to them.

The Mumbai police are investigating the case as a murder over property dispute. They are also exploring the 'honour killing' angle as Indrani was against Sheena's relationship with Rahul Mukherjea, Peter's son from a previous marriage.
