At least one person was reportedly killed in a major fire which broke out in a building on Bapty Road in Mumbai on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, the fire started in a godown located in the building. A rescue operation was underway as several people were feared trapped inside the building.

As many as 11 fire tenders and eight water tankers were battling to douse the fire in the Arab Galli area.

"We managed to remove one person who was rushed to Nair hospital. However he was declared dead before admission. One of our firemen, Satish Dharmaraj Gaikwad, has sustained minor injury to both his knees," Chief fire officer P Rahangadale told The Times of India.
