MTV EMAs 2016: Canadian artists win big; check out the complete list of winners

The MTV EMAs (Europe Music Awards) 2016 concluded on the night of November 6 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, with Canadian artists dominating the music award show. Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Drake and The Weeknd won major awards at the MTV EMAs 2016.

Bieber, who skipped the award show, won three major awards, including for biggest fans, best Canadian act and best song for Sorry. Lady Gaga was another big winner at the MTV EMAs, but she too was missing from the award ceremony. She took home prizes for best female and best look.

Dutch DJ Martin Garrix won best electro act and best world stage and Drake won the best hip-hop act award. American punk rock band Green Day was named as the global icon of the year.

"It is really nice to be in Europe right now. It is nice to be out of America just for a second because of this horrendous election that's going on right now. Our entire country is about to have one big collective heart attack," Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said after collecting the award.
