Every year, Bollywood sees a plethora of releases and this year is no different for the film industry. Hundreds of Bollywood films are set to be released this year, but there are certain releases that have gained a specific amount of attention from audiences for its star cast and interesting story line.

So here is a roundup of the most awaited movies that are set to be released in 2016:

Wazir: Farhan Akhtar, Amitabh Bachchan, John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh starrer action thriller "Wazir" hit screens on 8 January. "Wazir" will be 2016's first big movie starring A-list Bollywood stars. The film marks the comeback of award winning trio Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi.

Airlift: Starring Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur, "Airlift" created buzz for its impressive storyline. The film is based on the real life story of the biggest evacuation of Indians based in Kuwait during the Iraq-Kuwait war. The trailer of "Airlift", which is said to be a masterpiece, already gave a glimpse of the biggest evacuation and raised the curiosity level of moviegoers. "Airlift" will be released worldwide on 22 January.

Saala Khadoos: Directed by Sudha Kongara, the movie is a bilingual sports drama revolving around boxing. The film features R Madhavan as a boxing coach and newcomer Ritika Singh as an aspiring boxer. "Saala Khadoos" will release on 29 January.

Fitoor: The eagerly awaited Aditya Roy Kapur, Katrina Kaif and Tabu starrer "Fitoor" will be released on 12 February. Abhishek Kapoor's directorial film is an adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel Great Expectations.

Neerja: Starring Sonam Kapoor, "Neerja" is a story of braveheart air hostess Neerja Bhanot who was shot dead by terrorists in 1986 during an attack on a Mumbai-New York flight. The trailer of the film got thumbs up from celebs, critics as well as the audiences. Directed by ad filmmaker Ram Madhavan, the film also features Shabana Azmi and Shekhar Ravijani in supporting roles. "Neerja" will release on 19 February.

Jai Gangaajal: Priyanka Chopra will be back in an action avatar with "Jai Gangaajal". It is a sequel to the 2003 film starring Ajay Devgn. Prakash Jha, who is also the director of the film, is making his acting debut with "Jai Gangaajal".

Fan: Shah Rukh Khan in double role as a superstar and his fan has made the film one of the most awaited films of 2016 and on top of that the two teasers have generated more curiosity. The film is directed by Maneesh Sharma and will be released worldwide on 15 April.

Baaghi: What makes this Shraddha Kapoor and Tiger Shroff starrer "Baaghi" interesting is that it is a remake of Prabhas starrer Telugu film "Varsham". The film features Paras Arora, Shraddha Kapoor and Tiger Shroff in lead roles, and it will hit screens on 29 April.

Azhar: Starring Emraan Hashmi, "Azhar" is a biographical sports drama based on the life of the former Indian international cricketer, Mohammad Azharuddin. "Azhar", directed by Tony D'Souza, is the second sports film of 2016. "Azhar" will hit screens on 13 May.

Sarabjit: Based on the real life story of Indian brave heart Sarabjit Singh, this Omung Kumar film features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda in lead roles. The film will be released on 20 May.

Housefull 3: The first two installments of the Housefull franchise were laugh riots and third the third installment is expected to be the same. Starring Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez, Abhishek Bachchan, Nargis Fakhri, Riteish Deshmukh and Lisa Haydon, the comedy entertainer will hit screens on 3 June.

Sultan: Salman Khan is back with his Eid release. After delivering a blockbuster hit in 2015, Salman will release "Sultan" on Eid 2016. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film features Salman as a wrestler.

Raees: The Shah Rukh starrer is one of the most anticipated films of 2016, as it features Shah Rukh Khan as a cruel and clever bootlegger. Directed by Rahul Dholakia, the film features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pakistani actress Mahira Khan in supporting roles. "Raees" is also set for Eid release.

Mohenjo Daro: This Hrithik Roshan starrer is a period drama directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Hrithik will be seen on-screen after a gap of more than two years. The film marks the debut of Pooja Hegde. The film is scheduled for a 12 August release. 

MS Dhoni: The Untold Biopic: Sushant Singh Rajput plays the role of cricketer MS Dhoni. Neeraj Pandey's biopic on Indian skipper MS Dhoni will be released on 2 September.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil: Karan Johar's directorial film "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" is a love triangle featuring Aishwarya Rai, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. The film will be a Diwali release.

Shivaay: Ajay Devgn, who is the lead actor, is making his directorial debut with "Shivaay". The film has gained viewers' attention with its interesting poster and now moviegoers are waiting for the release of the film.

Dangal: The year 2016 will end with Aamir Khan's "Dangal". The film is based on former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and will hit screens during Christmas, which is said to be Aamir's lucky period.
