1. Demonetisation: SC pulls up government, asks if it can guarantee minimum weekly cash withdrawal for people

The Supreme Court on Friday pulled up the Centre over demonetisation and asked if it can guarantee a minimum cash withdrawal from banks across the country to every customer affected by the November 8 decision. The top court also asked the government to respond by Wednesday if it could relax the curbs imposed on district cooperative banks after implementing certain conditions. Read more here

2. AgustaWestland chopper scam: CBI arrests former air force chief SP Tyagi and 2 others for Rs 450 crore bribery

In an unprecedented move, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested former Indian Air Force (IAF) chief Shashindra Pal Tyagi, or SP Tyagi, and two others in connection with the AgustaWestland chopper scam, over allegations of widespread bribery in the case. 3. Russia doping scandal: Nescafe coffee granules, salt used to tamper urine samples of over 1000 athletes

"Unprecedented and astonishing" findings, as mentioned by the International Paralympic Committee in their statement, were made on Friday by Dr. Richard McLaren, entrusted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to look into the widespread state-sponsored doping activities in Russia. The McLaren report has now come out with a revelation that over 1000 athletes from the country benefited from the doping programme, that lasted between 2011 and 2015. Read more here.

4. Global Terrorism Index: India ranks 7th among countries most hit by terror attacks

5. No free school for children of illegal immigrants in France, says Far-Right leader Marine Le Pen

French far-right leader and chief of the National Front Marine Le Pen on Thursday called for an end to free education to the children of illegal immigrants in France. One of the primary candidates for the French presidential elections 2017, Le Pen said that she does not have anything against foreigners, but they should not expect things for free after coming into the nation.
