Akshay Kumar's "Rustom" and Hrithik Roshan's "Mohenjo Daro" registered decent collection at the worldwide box office on Monday and together they have inched closer to the Rs. 200 crore gross mark.

The Akshay-starrer opened big and showed good growth on the following days. "Rustom" collected Rs. 70.03 crore gross at the domestic box office in the first weekend. The movie cashed in on the Independence day holiday and managed to attract more number of audience to the theatres on Monday. "Rustom" witnessed an occupancy that was on par with Sunday.

"Rustom" is estimated to have collected Rs. 23 crore gross at the Indian box office on Monday, taking its four-day domestic total to Rs. 93.03 crore gross. The movie is expected to hold well in theatres across the country and gross another Rs. 30 crore in the next three days.

While Hrithik and Pooja Hegde-starrer was expected to open big and lead the race at the domestic centres, "Mohenjo Daro" received lack-luster opening and failed to show big growth on the following days. The movie collected Rs. 42.42 crore gross at the Indian box office in its opening weekend.

Like "Rustom," the Ashutosh Gowariker-directed period film maintained a rock-steady hold on Monday. "Mohenjo Daro" is estimated to have collected approximately Rs. 14 crore gross at the Indian box office on its fourth day and its domestic gross total stands at Rs. 52.42 crore.

"Rustom" has fared better than "Mohenjo Daro" in the key international markets too. Akshay's film grossed Rs. 15.4 crore at the overseas box office in the first weekend, while Hrithik's movie minted Rs. 11.68 crore in three days. Both the movies are estimated to have collected approximately Rs. 4.50 crore gross together at the international box office on Monday, taking their international total to Rs. 31.58 crore gross.

"Rustom"

Domestic + International collection (gross) in 3 days = Rs. 70.03 crore + Rs. 15. 40 crore = Rs. 85.43 crore. To this figure, we are adding the day 4 gross domestic collection — Rs. 23 crore — taking the total to Rs. 108. 43 crore.

"Mohenjo Daro"

Domestic + International collection (gross) in 3 days = Rs. 42.42 crore + Rs. 11.68 crore = Rs. 54.10 crore. To this number, we are adding the day 4 domestic gross collection — Rs. 14 crore — taking the total to Rs. 68.1 crore.

Both the films have grossed Rs. 176.53 crore at the worldwide box office and an additional Rs. 4.50 crore, which is the combined day 4 international gross box office collection, will push the total to Rs. 181.03 crore.

Both "Mohenjo Daro" and "Rustom" roughly need Rs. 20 crore to enter the Rs. 200 crore mark and should be able to achieve this feat by Tuesday. 

Excellent word-of-mouth and positive reviews from critics kept "Rustom" strong at the box office. Despite facing a stiff competition from "Mohenjo Daro," Akshay's film showed good growth and is expected to hold steady in the coming days. "Rustom" is now number 4 on Top 10 Highest Opening Weekend Grossers Of 2016, whereas "Mohenjo Daro" has taken the 9th slot.
