Multi starrer movies are not new to Malayalam cinema. The latest buzz is that Mohanlal and Prithviraj will star in one such movie to be directed by Priyadarshan. Touted as a political thriller, it will be scripted by Priyadarshan.

Priyadarshan talked about his next project in an interview with Southlive.in

"My team project is with Mohanlal. The movie will be a political thriller which will star both Prithviraj and Mohanlal. The movie will be apolitical thriller which along the lines of movies like "Adwaitham" and "Aryan" and will deal with political scenario in Kerala. The scripting of the movie will be done by me. It will be a big challenge for me to do a movie with two stars," said Priyadarshan to Southlive.

The director also added that he is planning a Hindi movie with actor Akshay Kumar.

Meanwhile, Priyadarshan who is known for light hearted comedy drams movies, has also been successful in coming out with thrillers like "Abhimanyu", "Adwaiytham" and "Aryan". These movies were also a big turning point in Mohanlal's film career.

For Prithviraj, this will be his first project with Priyadarshan and Mohanlal. Earlier in 2013, there were reports of Lal Jose planning a movie titled "Cousins" with both the stars, but the project somehow failed to materialise. Some sources claimed the huge budget and the unavailability of the actors' dates as reasons for dropping the project.

There were also some unconfirmed reports of Prithviraj being part of Ranjith movie that starred Mohanlal and Manju Warrier in the lead. This movie was touted as Manju Warrier's comeback movie after a gap of 14 years but the film got shelved.

Mohanlal's last movie with Priyadarshan was "Geethanjali" in 2013. The movie failed to impress critics or the audience.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal had lent his voice to Priyadarshan's latest release "Aamayum Muyalum". This movie was also not well received by the audience as was expected.
