Shortly after midday local time on 3 April in Grandview, Missouri, police officer Chris Golubski signalled for Michael Hunter-Moore to pull over for a suspected traffic violation. However, the driver of the green SUV sped up and tried to pull away from the police car.

Golubski turned on his siren and gave chase, then watched as the vehicle fishtailed, rolled over and the driver was thrown into the air. Golubski stopped and ran from his car to the overturned SUV, looking for the driver and shouting: Do you see anybody? to someone who had stopped for the accident.

Golubski found Hunter-Moore in a ditch, started chest compressions and stayed with him until paramedics arrived. Local media said Hunter-Moore has been charged with driving with a revoked licence, not wearing a seat belt and failure to yield. He remains in the hospital.
