In May 2015, Microsoft announced that it would release the company's proprietary voice-assistant Cortana to Android and Apple iOS devices. Now, the company has released Cortana Beta on Google Play store.

"Today, we're pleased to make the beta of the Cortana app available to all Android phone users," said Susan Hendrich, official Windows Blog administrator.

"With the app, you can manage your hectic lifestyle by setting and getting reminders, searching the web on-the-go, tracking important information such as flight details as well as starting and completing tasks across all of your devices," she added.

What is Cortana?

Cortana, Windows' voice assistant is similar to Siri (in Apple devices) and Google Now (in Android Devices). It is inspired by the popular artificial intelligence character (Master Chief's AI side-kick) seen in "Halo" video game series. It is powered by Microsoft's search engine Bing and SensorCore technology.

The voice assistant is good at setting calendar appointments and also proactivelys warn you when it's time to leave for your next appointment and reminds you to pick up milk on your way home.

Interested readers can now head to Google Play store to become a Cortana beta tester.
