This is a Google initiative to sway the next billion users in to its fold. The search engine giant has strategically chosen the Indian market to tap the vast youth population (comprised of more than 60 percent of the total Indian population).

The potential for future growth in the Indian smartphone market seem promising as 71 percent of the market continues to be on feature phones and the domestic smartphone market witnessed a record 84 percent year-on-year growth in Q2 over the last year, said market watch-dog, IDC (International Data Corporation)

[Note: India is the fastest and the third biggest smartphone market in the world, it is behind USA, which is led by China].

It has to be noted that Android One project, is not only expected to sway more users towards Google, but also give a much needed boost to Micromax to lessen the gap between the leader, Samsung, which stands on top with 17-percent market share, while the former is placed second with 14-percent share.

Now with stock android phone, Micromax has got itself a real shot at the throne. If all things fall in place, it can displace the South Korean company before the end of 2014. Samsung has already lost ground in China with the emergence of Xiaomi and Huawei.

And here in India, things are about to get much tougher for Samsung as Google has also inked pact with a few more domestic brands - Karbonn Mobiles, Spice, Celkon and is reportedly in talks with Intex as well.

the upcoming Google phone will have 4.3/4.5-inch screen, main-camera (on the rear-side) with LED flash, a front camera, stock Android OS and expandable memory.

According to Digit, Micromax Android One is also said pack a 1GB RAM, quad-core processor and a 1,750 mAh battery.
