Mercedes-Benz India launched its new sports car, the Mercedes-AMG GT S, for a price at Rs 2.4 crore at AMG Performance Center, T&T Motors, Mathura Road in New Delhi. This is the 14th product to be launched by the German luxury car-manufacturer's Indian subsidiary as part of the "15 models in 2015" product strategy. This also marks the fifth high performance AMG car launch in India this year.

The successor of SLS AMG, the GT will is available only GT S trim in India. The AMG GT is the second sports car to be completely developed by Mercedes-AMG engineers at Affalterbach in Germany.

The sports car is powered by 4.0-litre V8 twin turbo petrol engine that develops 503bhp at 6,250rpm and 650Nm of torque mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. AMG V8 engine has two turbochargers that are not mounted on the outside of the cylinder banks, but inside the V configuration that aids compact engine design, optimum better performance from the turbochargers and low exhaust gas emissions. The car runs from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds before reaching the electronically limited speed of 310 kmph.

The GT S comes as standard with a mechanical rear-axle locking differential with an electronically controlled rear-axle locking differential. The AMG Ride Control sports suspension with electronically controlled damping which is exclusive for GT S trim. The suspension setup lets the driver to adjust the damping characteristics at the push of a button in the AMG Drive Unit or by using the AMG Dynamic Select drive modes. The three available stages are: Comfort, Sport and Sport plus.
