"The Mentalist" season 7 has finally got the green light from its production house. After much speculation that the show will be cancelled, owing to its low ratings, it seems CBS has finally renewed the show for a new season.

Season 7 of "The Mentalist" will reportedly have 13 episodes. The season is yet to get its premiere date but buzz suggests that the show will return in the middle of the fall.

Meanwhile, season 6 wrapped up on May 18 with a befitting finale. The last episode of the season was called "Blue Bird". Its synopsis read: "A new lead in a cold case surfaces, forcing Lisbon to postpone her plans to relocate, and this delay allows Jane to examine his feelings for her and decide how to proceed."

Robin Tunney, who plays Lisbon in the series, suggested before the season 6 finale aired that the episode would have something for everyone.

"It is going to make a lot of people really happy, and I think it's going to make some people angry.... I don't think anyone will feel in the middle of the road about it," Tunney told the TV Line.

Furthermore, Bruno Heller, creator of the show, suggested that the finale will bring an end to the Jane-Lisbon storyline, and will give opportunities to other characters.

"I think the fans will think of it as a very satisfying finale," Heller said, adding: "We're very happy with where we've taken them."

"The Mentalist" season 6 finale will be aired on Sunday, 18 May at 10 pm ET, and can be watched on the CBS network or online through free live stream here.

Other than "The Mentalist", CBS network has also renewed "CSI", "Two Broke Girls" but has cancelled "The Crazy Ones", "Intelligence" and "Bad Teacher".
