The makers have finally revealed the name of the leading lady who will be paired opposite Salman Khan in one of the most awaited movies of the year -- "Sultan". The leading lady, who will romance Salman Khan, is none other than "PK" actress Anushka Sharma.

"The most eagerly awaited announcement of 2016 is here! Anushka Sharma will star opposite Salman Khan in Yash Raj Films' SULTAN," Yash Raj Films said in a statement.

Names of several Bollywood actresses including Kriti Sanon, Deepika Padukone, Parineeti Chopra, Mandana Karimi, Katrina Kaif and TV actress Mrunal Kulkarni have been doing the rounds, but it's Anushka who bagged the lead role.

Anushka, who made her debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi", shared a photo of herself hugging Salman with a caption that read "Sultan". Anushka is among the few actresses who have shared screen space with the three Khans of Bollywood. The "Band Baaja Baarat" actress made her debut in 2008 opposite Shah Rukh Khan and later shared screen space with the actor in Yash Chopra's directorial film "Jab Tak Hai Jaan". In 2014 she paired up with Aamir Khan in "PK" and in 2016 she will be seen on silver screen with Salman.

Produced by Aditya Chopra and written-directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, "Sultan" is based on the life of a wrestler and the film has extensively been shot in Karjat.

For the role of a wrestler, Salman has undergone intensive training. The actor will also try out mixed martial arts for the film with international action director Larnell Stovall.

Salman-Anushka starrer "Sultan" is slated to be released on Eid 2016.
