An earthquake of a preliminary 6.6 magnitude struck near Komandorskiye Ostrava in east Russia on Wednesday morning, the US Geological Survey said.

The earthquake, which was originally recorded at a magnitude of 7.0, struck 33 km deep off the coast in the Bering Sea. 

However, no tsunami alert has been issued yet, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said.

Nearly 1.8 lakh people reportedly live in the Kamchatsky region, which is located near the earthquake prone zone known as the Ring of Fire.

No loss of life or injuries have been reported.
