Though Sony has reverted Spider-Man rights to Marvel under its Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) flagship, it still holds the rights of other prominent characters from the franchise, namely Venom and Sinister Six.

In the latest revamp of Spider-Man franchise, Tom Holland has played the character, replacing Andrew Garfield from the previous movies. Holland was first seen as the iconic web slinger in MCU's latest "Captain America: Civil War."

Although Garfield's "The Amazing Spider-Man" storyline was abruptly ended when Sony decided a third reboot of the franchise, it seems that the actor might be brought into the scene again.

Garfield's Spidey movies didn't succeed financially as the studio was expecting. However, it surely garnered a fandom and fans were disappointed when the cancellation was announced.

According to Screen Geek, recent speculations have stated that Garfield might be considered for a role in Sony's proposed "Venom" movie. According to the website, since MCU has been experimenting with its characters belonging from different universes (as was with the case of MCU and X-Men's Quicksilver), the fans of Garfield might get to see him in another franchise's movie, though he won't be donning the Spider costume this time.

The Hollywood Reporter had stated earlier that Sony is looking for the scriptwriter who can pen the "Venom" story that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. Though it has not yet been announced who will be writing the story, according to the website, Sony had approached Dante Harper for the script.

Currently, the studio is busy with Holland's first Spidey movie "Spider-Man: Homecoming" that is scheduled to release next year. Sony will most probably pick up the story of "Venom" once the "Homecoming" is done. Though there is no official word either from the studio or from Garfield, fans should keep their fingers crossed.
