Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car-maker, launched its new compact SUV Vitara Brezza in India March 8 and the car has been earning good market response. The Vitara Brezza clocked over 2,600 bookings within 24 hours of its launch and over 5,600 within two days of entering the market. The overwhelming response has also resulted in an increase in the waiting period, which now stands at three months.

The dealers of Maruti Suzuki have confirmed to International Business Times, India that the compact SUV now commands a waiting period of up to three months depending on the city. While in a city like Bangalore, the waiting period for the Vitara Brezza is two months, in Chennai the model has a waiting period of up to three months. In Kochi and Delhi, the base variant of the Vitara Brezza has a waiting period of up to two months and other variants may have a higher waiting period.

Priced at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Vitara Brezza is offered in LDi, LDi (O), VDi, VDi (O), ZDi, ZDi+ and ZDi+ dual-tone trims in India. It was earlier reported that Maruti Suzuki had decided to increase the production of the Vitara Brezza to one lakh from the previous 80,000 after seeing the response at the Auto Expo 2016. The Vitara Brezza was first showcased at the Auto Expo.

Powering the compact SUV is a 200 DDis 1248cc diesel engine that develops 88.5bhp at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The Vitara Brezza claims to deliver a fuel efficiency of 24.3 kmpl.

As for features, the Vitara Brezza comes with electrically-foldable ORVMs with integrated turn-indicators, a reverse parking camera, Smartplay infotainment system, cooled glove box, cruise control, projector headlamps and in-built navigation.
