Maruti Suzuki's first compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza, has become one of the most successful vehicles launched by the company so far. The Vitara Brezza, which was launched in March, has been the best-selling utility vehicle in the first five months of this financial year.

Maruti Suzuki sold 41,484 units of the Vitara Brezza during the April-August duration to clinch the top position in UV sales, reported the Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures. Hyundai India's Creta SUV is the second best-selling model, with 39,088 unit sales. It should be noted that Maruti Suzuki sells the Vitara Brezza in diesel power train only while Creta is sold in both petrol and diesel mills.

Toyota Kirlosakar Motor's Innova MPV is the third best-seller. The last gen Innova and Innova Crysta's combined sales from April to August stood at 35,693 units. The MPV is priced at Rs. 13.72 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, and sold in both petrol and diesel mills.

Mahindra's best-selling model, the Bolero, has been affected the most by the arrival of new rivals. Despite being the best selling SUV for the past 10 years, the sales of Bolero slipped in this fiscal. Mahindra sold only 22,673 units of the Bolero, making it the fourth best-selling model.

Ford sold 21, 558 units of the EcoSport during April-August 2016, pushing it to the fifth place. Mahindra Scorpio sealed the sixth spot with sales figures of 19,354 units.

The Vitara Brezza currently has over 1 lakh bookings and the company is struggling to meet the demand due to production constraints. Maruti Suzuki is also planning to launch a petrol-powered version soon, which will further cement the lead of the Vitara Brezza in the SUV segment.
