A new prototype of Maruti' upcoming crossover SX4 S-Cross has been snapped while undergoing testing in India, this time giving away the clue that the model could feature a 1.6-litre diesel engine.
Caught on camera by the good chaps at GaadiWaadi, in the latest spy shots, Maruti S-Cross which is allegedly named Across in India seen donned in Blue body paint and the prototype is in its completely revealed avatar.
The images show the test mule with DDiS badges and 1.6 stickers, hinting that the engine could make it to the India-specific version. However, this cannot be confirmed yet as the test mule appeared to be an exported variant. The 1.6-litre diesel engine will have the capacity to churn out a power of 118bhp with a peak torque of 32kgm and the transmission is likely to come from a six-speed manual gearbox.
In Europe, the S-Cross is sold with a 1.6-litre petrol engine, which can churn out 120PS peak power and 156Nm peak torque and 1.6-litre MultiJet engine, capable of generating 120PS and 320Nm torque. In India, the model is rumoured to get 1.3-litre, diesel engine with 5-speed manual gearbox.
To be squared off against Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Terrano in India, S-Cross aka Across is likely to be priced around ₹8 lakh.
From what we have seen so far, Maruti S- Cross is likely to come with projector headlamps and Daytime Running LEDs, 16-inch alloy wheels, scuff plates and black-cladding. Other expected features include multi-function steering wheel, SmartPlay infotainment and keyless entry.
