Maruti Suzuki, the company that offered Automated Manual Transmission for the first time in any car sold in the country, is all set to expand the transmission availability to other car of its rage. After the Celerio, Swift Dzire and the Alto K10, Maruti Suzuki will reportedly launch the Swift hatchback with AMT transmission.

A report in Financial Express reports says the launch of Swift AMT can be expected by the end of this year most probably in the festive season. Maruti Suzuki registered a growth of 82 percent in sales of AMT in the last fiscal. The company sold over 54,700 units of AMT cars in FY 2015-16. The plan to launch swift AMT is reportedly seeing this overwhelming response for AMT models.

The Swift is currently powered by the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel mills. It is unclear in which mill the AMT will be sold. Maruti Suzuki sells AMT in petrol models of Alto K10 and Celerio, while Swift Dzire AMT is coupled with diesel powertrain. Considering popularity of Swift diesel models, AMT is expected with diesel model. The Swift diesel unit develops 74bhp and 200Nm.

Ahead of Swift AMT, Maruti Suzuki will launch limited edition version that is expected this month itself. The company on its twitter handle commenced a contest that seeks the name for the upcoming limited edition model. Maruti Suzuki showcased a special Swift model draped in red with white racing stripes at the Auto Expo 2016. In all probability, this could be the upcoming limited edition of Swift.
