Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, is getting ready to foray in to the burgeoning crossover segment with its new S-Cross.

Maruti S-Cross, the model based on SX4 S-Cross, is the next big step forward for the company and is being touted as a potential challenger in its segment. Maruti is expected to launch the car in India in early August and the model will be sold through the company's Nexa premium dealerships.

The bookings for S-Cross are open and auto lovers already have a clear picture of what to expect. The model is making numerous appearances on the web through leaked reports and spy shots. Maruti S-cross was also showcased at IIFA 2015 in Malaysia.

For the uninitiated, Maruti S-Cross measures 4,300 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width, and 1,590 mm in height and has a ground clearance of 180 mm. The engine line-up include two diesel engines - 200 DDiS 1.3-litre diesel motor that can churn out 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque and 320 DDiS 1.6-litre diesel that is tuned to pump out 118bhp and 320Nm of torque. The five-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed manual gearbox are expected to take care of transmission.

Maruti S-Cross is likely to be offered in eight trims: 1.3L Sigma, 1.3L Sigma (O), 1.3L Delta, 1.3L Zeta, 1.3L Alpha, 1.6L Delta, 1.6L Zeta and 1.6L Alpha. There are five exterior body colours to choose from: Urban Blue, Caffeine Brown, Granite Grey, Premium Sliver and Pear Arctic white.

To be priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 11 lakh, S-Cross will be competing against the likes of Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport in India.

Reports suggest that it will have features such as driver airbag, keyless entry, electrically adjustable ORVMs, tilt-adjustable steering, reverse parking sensor, smartplay infotainment system, rear centre armrest, LED positioning lamps and leather seat upholstery.
