India's leading auto manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is offering heavy discounts on its popular MPV Ertiga in the country ahead of the launch of its arch rival Honda Mobilio.

Maruti Ertiga, a car which has been enjoying average sales of 5,000 units per month is now being offered with a discounts upto ₹70,000 in India, which includes cash discount, exchange bonus and a corporate discount, as reported by Zigwheels.

It looks like Maruti has also been hit by the fierce competition in the MPV segment of the domestic market. Maruti Ertiga, which more or less did not have a direct rival in the Indian market, now appears to fear the forthcoming competition from Honda's first MPV offering Mobilio.

Honda Mobilio is expected to hit Indian auto market with a competitive price tag ranging from ₹6 lakh to ₹8.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Under the hood, Honda Mobilio packs 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engines. While the petrol motor can churn out a power of 117 bhp at 6600 rpm, the diesel unit can pump in 99 bhp @ 3,600 rpm and 200 Nm torque @ 1,750 rpm. Most importantly, the Mobilio will also become the country's most fuel-efficient vehicle in this segment, with the diesel model of Mobilio expected to deliver a mileage of 26 kmpl and the petrol version to give 18 kmpl, whereas the fuel efficiency of Maruti Ertiga stands at 16.02 from petrol and 22.77kmpl from diesel.

Seated on wheelbase of 2740 mm, Maruti Ertiga measures 1685 mm in height, 4265 mm in length and 1695 mm in width. It is powered by 1.4 litre petrol engine, which can churn out a power of 95 bhp and a peak torque of 132 Nm and the 1.3 litre motor that can generate a power of 90bhp and a torque of 2014 Nm.

Recently, Maruti launched a limited edition of its Ertiga in India. Offered in petrol, diesel and CNG option, the new Ertiga features rear upper spoiler, sleek front Chrome grille along with 10 spoke alloy wheels, body graphics and decal. Inside the cabin, the new model of Ertiga sports black and beige dual tone interiors with wooden finish cubic print on IP and door trim. In addition to this, the limited edition floor mats, rear parking assist sensor with digital display and high grade integrated audio are also offered in the package.
