It looks like Maruti Suzuki has got it all right when comes to its Ciaz sedan. Ciaz, Maruti's offering in the premium segment, has earned overwhelming response from the auto lovers in the country since its entry into the market and now, the latest is that the car has crossed the sales figure of 50,000 in eight months.

A report in ET Auto says that Maruti sold more than 50,000 Ciaz in last eight months, including 9,000 units that have been exported to other markets. The report also adds that out of the 43,000 units sold in the domestic market; about 65 percent of buyers were Maruti's existing customers who owned either a Swift or Swift Dzire.

Ciaz sedan came to the market with great responsibility of restoring Maruti's name in the big car segment, where the company's SX4 sedan and Baleno conceded defeat. Although competition in the market was tough for Ciaz with the model taking directly on the likes of Honda City and Hyundai Verna, the premium sedan of Maruti managed to pull ahead in its battle with Hyundai Verna since the second month of its launch. Going by the current sales figure, Maruti Ciaz stands in the second position in its segment behind Honda City.

Maruti Ciaz, an Overview

Launched on 6 October, Maruti Ciaz is offered in both diesel and petrol engine options. Under the hood, the new Ciaz packs 1.3 litre Multijet diesel or 1.4 litre K Series petrol engine and is available in a total of ten trims: 6 petrol variants V, V+, Z, Z(O), V+(AT) and Z AT and 4 diesel variants V, V+, Z and Z(O). The petrol Ciaz churns out 95 PS power at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm peak torque at 4,000 rpm and comes coupled to a five speed manual or four speed automatic transmission, while the diesel model of the car is tuned to churn out 90 PS at 4,000 rpm power and 200 Nm peak torque at 1,750 rpm and gets five speed manual gearbox.
