It looks like Maruti Suzuki's premium sedan Ciaz will be updated in India with Suzuki's M15 petrol engine. A report of Autocar India says that the 1.5 litre petrol engine is likely to power the Ciaz, replacing the current 1.4 litre K Series petrol engine.

According to the publication, Maruti is looking to roll out M15 1.5-litre petrol engine for its premium crossover offering the S-Cross and the same is also likely to power the Ciaz. Suzuki's M 15 is a four-cylinder engine, which can churn out 100bhp of power at 5,900rpm and 133Nm of torque at 4,100rpm.

Ciaz is currently powered by 1.3 litre MultiJet diesel engine and 1.4 litre K Series petrol engine. While the 1.3 litre diesel mill has the capacity to churn out 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque, the develops 91bhp at 6,000rpm and 130Nm of torque at 4,000rpm mated to five-speed manual transmission. The petrol variant is also available with four-speed automatic transmission now. Ciaz was earlier also rumoured to get Fiat 1.6 litre diesel engine in India. However, the plan was later said to be dropped. The Ciaz diesel engine comes with Integrated Starter Generator. It makes use of lithium ion battery that is charged with the help of regenerative braking.

On the other hand, the S-Cross is currently being offered only in diesel engine option. The S-Cross is powered by a 1.3-litre diesel motor that churns out 89bhp power and 200Nm torque, and a 1.6-litre diesel engine tuned to pump out 118bhp and 320Nm. The former is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, while the latter gets six-speed manual transmission.
