Auto enthusiasts have heard a lot about Maruti's new Baleno premium hatchback, which is on sale in India with price tag starting at Rs 4.99 lakh. The latest buzz is that Baleno, the second car to hit the floors via Maruti's premium dealership Nexa, has garnered over 21,000 bookings so far since its entry into the market in October this year.

The emerging reports reveal that the new Maruti's latest offering has been receiving overwhelming responses from the auto lovers in the country. A report in ET Auto, quoting Maruti Suzuki Executive Director, Sales and Marketing, RS Kalsi states that the premium hatchback, which is pinned to rival against Honda new Jazz and Hyundai Elite i20, has got 21,000 bookings within two weeks of its launch.

An earlier report had said that Baleno currently has a waiting period of up to six weeks, depending on the variant. Offered in four trims and in seven body shades: Granite grey, Solid fire red, Premium urban blue, Autumn orange, Metallic premium silver, Pearl arctic white and Ray blue, Maruti Baleno has been priced in the range of Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 8.11 lakh (ex-showroom).

Under the hood, Maruti Baleno includes 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. While the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine is tuned to develop 83bhp and 115Nm of torque, the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel mill churns out 74bhp and 190Nm of torque.

Both the engines are mated to a five-speed manual transmission and the petrol engine is also available with CVT automatic gearbox. As for fuel efficiency, the Maruti Baleno diesel is tuned to deliver fuel efficiency of 27.39kmpl and the petrol unit returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.4kmpl.
