Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan attended the trailer launch of Kalki Koechlin's "Margarita, with a Straw" recently.
After receiving several awards in international film festivals, the Shonali Bose directorial will now be released in India. Aamir, who has always stood up for social causes, came forward to support Bose and Koechlin's project by gracing the event with his presence.
"On watching 'Margarita, with a Straw', Aamir's first response to me was – India must see this – what can I do! It reminded me of Cameron Bailey's, (Artistic Director – Toronto) statement – this film will transform the way people see the world," Bose said, according to Business of cinema.
"I'm thrilled and utterly grateful to have Aamir launch our trailer and poster so that Indian audiences can see what he and the world have been wowed by. I am most excited for our India release – more than any part of the world," she added.
At the trailer launch event, Khan went on to praise the film and said his wife Kiran Rao insisted him to watch it. When asked what kind of research was required for such a film, Bose told the media that she has grown up with a sister who is differently-abled.
"Margarita, with a Straw" is the story of a girl with cerebral palsy and her struggle of discovering herself. Laila, the lead character that has been played by Koechlin, falls in love with a guy after she leaves India to study at the New York University. Later, the film shows her journey of sexual discovery which hinders the relationship between her family and friends.
The film will release on 13 March, 2015 in India.
