Mirpur, Sep 16: Pakistan built the Mangla Dam on the Jhelum River in 1967 to provide water for irrigation and generate electricity for rich landlords and industrialists. However, the people of Mirpur in Azad Kashmir lost their ancient city, shrines and fertile land. The dam uprooted more than 20,000 families, and people were forced to leave their homes and give up their livelihood.
