The latest in the ever-growing striker list for Manchester United to bid on during the January transfer window is Borussia Dortmund hitman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

After scoring just 20 goals in 14 matches this season in the English Premier League, the heat is on Louis Van Gaal to change Manchester United's fortunes in front of goal, be that internally or by signing a new player when the transfer window opens next month.

As good a player as Anthony Martial is, he is still young and learning the ropes. Wayne Rooney has been under-par all season, while Van Gaal does not seem to have enough faith in James Wilson to give the youngster a run through the middle.

That has led to suggestions of Manchester United wanting to sign a striker in January, and after FC Basel teenager Breel Embolo was linked with a move, it is now the turn of Aubameyang, who has been in scintillating form for Borussia Dortmund this season.

Aubameyang was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer transfer window, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all thought to be keen on moves.

Real Madrid have also kept tabs on Aubameyang as they look to replace the troubled Karim Benzema, and Manchester United have now joined the list as well, with Van Gaal keen to add the striker who has picked up 17 goals and three assists in 14 Bundesliga games this season, according to the Daily Star.

Aubameyang, though, only recently signed a new contract with Dortmund, keeping him locked at the Westfalenstadion until 2020, meaning any bid for the Gabon international will have to be pretty high.

Dortmund have struggled to keep hold of their big players in the past, but with several years still left on the striker's contract they will have the upper hand in any negotiations.

Manchester United, though, have shown over the last couple of years they have the power to spend loads of money and if Ed Woodward can make an irresistible offer, Dortmund might get tempted to sell, even in January, when big clubs usually keep hold of their players.
