Louis Van Gaal wants Harry Kane to lead the line for Manchester United next seasonReuters

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a lot of players in this summer transfer window, but they have managed to only secure the signing of Memphis Depay so far. The latest footballer to catch the eye of United manager Louis Van Gaal is Harry Kane.

According to Metro, the Red Devils are planning a £40million move for the England international striker. Reportedly, Manchester United have opened talks with Tottenham Hotspur over Kane's possible move to the Old Trafford.

This summer transfer window has become seemingly frustrating for the United manager Van Gaal as he has failed to secure most of his summer targets.

Radamel Falcao's move to Chelsea also has been confirmed and Robin Van Persie, reportedly will be sold this summer. That would leave a void in the attacking line and the manager is desperate to land a star in that position, and Kane has been in his target list for quite some time now.

Kane, who had a sensational last season with Spurs, will be the ideal foil for Wayne Rooney. The 21-year old England striker was one of the highest goalscorers in the English Premier League 2014-2015 season.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports reporter James Cooper has come to know United are yet to make any bid but they are planning to.

"It is a search for a striker that now includes Harry Kane and that is interesting. He is on the list of possible deals that Manchester United might be tempted into doing this summer. What Manchester United are doing is looking at all their options. There certainly has been no bid at the moment between Old Trafford and White Hart Lane and no real negotiations at all. But what has shifted is that Manchester United have interest in the player. He is under consideration by Louis van Gaal," Cooper to Sky Sports.

For United, they could double up the raid as they are also eyeing a move for the French goalkeeper who plays for the Spurs as well - Hugo Lloris. The North London club will look to retain their prized asset but a lucrative deal from United might lure Kane to the Theatre of Dreams.

According to reports, Van Gaal wants to complete the signing of Morgan Schneiderlin next week. On the other hand, David De Gea and Sergio Ramos transfer saga continues.
