Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has praised the impression that new £36m ($55.5m) signing Anthony Martial has made so far at the club, in the aftermath of him scoring a wonder goal in the Red Devils 3-1 win over Liverpool.

19-year-old Martial, who became the most expensive teenage footballer ever on joining Manchester United from AS Monaco, made an instant impact from the substitutes bench at Old Trafford as he came on to score in the 86th minute, dribbling his way through Liverpools defence.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of Uniteds opening Champions League game away to PSV Eindhoven, Van Gaal said that while Martial had made a great start to life in Manchester, it would still take time for him to adjust to playing for the club.

His impression is good. I only can say that up until now its good. But also for him, its the same as for Memphis [Depay], you have to give him time. And thats what I am asking also to the fans, because he cant change the market price, he said.

United and PSV find themselves in Group B with Germanys Wolfsburg and Russias CSKA Moscow, while van Gaal works to maintain his teams performance both domestically and internationally.

Manchester United were absent from the Champions League last season but qualified this time around after pipping Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool to 4th place. So far this season in the Premier League United have taken three wins from five games and currently lie 3rd in the table.
